All students undertaking either the one year Master of Research programme or the first year of the Doctoral programme follow a series of five core courses. These courses are aimed to train students in the nature of multi-disciplinary study and each course provides an opportunity for students to undertake individual research in the form of a 4,000 word essay of their choosing.

Alongside these five courses, all students also follow a Research Methods course designed to offer practical training in both undertaking research and analysing and presenting it.
