At our first and second meetings in Autumn 2007 we will be discussing: ‘Notes on the Phantom’ in Abraham and Torok’s “The Shell and the Kernel”. A photostat will be available from Queen Mary (English), Birkbeck (History) and the IES in the second half of September; Mda Zakes, ‘The Heart of Redness’. This is available secondhand through Abe books or else through Amazon.
We plan to return to Lacan’s ‘Ethics’ seminar in the third meeting.
The Forum was established by Jacqueline Rose (Queen Mary) and Daniel Pick (Birkbeck) as an open-ended series of discussions. It is intended as a reading and discussion group open to any interested postgraduate or recent post-doctoral researchers in any faculty, from colleges and universities across and beyond London.
Occasionally, the seminar may focus on film or documentary material, but generally is based around the reading of one or two texts - a specific psychoanalytic article or book alongside a related work of historical inquiry, fiction or political thought.
Participants are welcome to attend regularly or occasonally, but, given space constraints, it would be helpful to e-mail Jon Millington in advance of a particular meeting (jon.millington@sas.ac.uk).
