Part literary publication, part therapeutic expression, Inside Out is a new breed of lifestyle magazine. By encouraging the submission and publication of creative writing for self development, with a focus on self-awareness and self-help, we believe that sometimes simply owning something on the page is all it takes to move past it and move on – for both reader and writer. Our magazine is designed to accommodate a growing need for people to turn their inside out - onto the page, into the world, and out of the system.
We are looking for a part time intern to work 2-3 days a week for 3 months. This is an ideal position for a recent graduate looking to get experience in the competitive world of publishing. A small press publication, you will get to experience the running of a magazine from every angle and be required to assist the editor on many different levels.
As an intern, you will be responsible for general administrative duties, assistance with funding proposals, writing body copy, proofing and copy-editing, minor layout and design. An English or Creative Writing degree is a must, as is a sound knowledge of Office 2007 (mainly Word and a little Excel). Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign skills are a plus; as is some level of web literacy.
This position would suit someone interested in magazine publishing or creative writing. The ideal candidate will be comfortable on the phone, good at problem solving, able to use their initiative, driven, organised, enthusiastic and keen to throw themselves in at the deep end.
We aim to inspire and train through practical, on-the-job experience.
The position is voluntary and external (interns will be required to work from home, communicating with the magazine through email).
Interns are asked to commit to a period of at least 3 months.
To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter to editor@myinsideout.co.uk stating clearly that you are applying for the “Editorial Internship”, as we also offer other internships. Please also explain why you would like to do the internship, what you think you can offer Inside Out, what areas of work you are particularly interested in and how you think this will benefit you.
