inIVA Training Placement - Exhibition and Education Programmes

inIVA creates exhibitions, publications, multimedia, education and research projects, designed to bring the work of artists from culturally-diverse backgrounds to the attention of the widest possible public. Anchored in the diversity of contemporary British culture and society, inIVA engages with culturally diverse practices and ideas, both local and global. inIVA invites artists and audiences to question assumptions about contemporary art and ideas. It acts as a catalyst for making these debates and artworks part of mainstream culture.

inIVA’s training placements are designed to give those from culturally-diverse backgrounds the chance to gain experience within the arts sector. The placements are a key part of our drive to make a positive cultural, social and economic contribution to the international art world. Trainees gain experience which is valuable on their C.V., and are provided with mentoring and career advice.

We are currently seeking someone to assist on the exhibitions and education programmes. We are looking for a candidate with initiative, creativity, excellent research and organisational skills and a commitment both to global contemporary art and audience development. You will also need competent office and computer skills as well as the ability to prioritise and multi task in a busy, open plan environment. Attention to detail and an ability to work relatively unsupervised are important for all candidates. Confidence in dealing with members of the public is also essential.

During the placement you will have the opportunity to:
* Work closely with inIVA’s, Exhibitions Curator and Education Curator on a number of projects
* Research artists, writers, critics and audiences across the world
* Gain knowledge of cultural policy and practice
* Work closely with artists on specific projects
* Attend on and off site meetings and events
* Participate in the development of inIVA’s school programme
* Assist inIVA’s PR and Marketing team
* Enjoy free entry to all inIVA events

The traineeship is offered on a full or part-time basis, and we are looking for someone who can commit between 3 and 9 months. Standard working hours are 09.30-17:30. Occasionally you may be asked to work weekends and evenings work in lieu of weekdays. The traineeship is offered on a voluntary basis however all expenses will be reimbursed. Located in London, EC2A 3BE at the new Rivington Place art space.

inIVA is unable to make an offer of permanent employment at the end of the traineeship. However, you will have a formal career development review in which we will assess what you have learned and how you can apply your new experience to further your career.
