JOB VACANCY AT PUMP HOUSE GALLERY

Job Title: Marketing Officer

Salary: £23,944 pro rata

Working Hours: 14 hours - 2 days per week

Annual leave: 27 days pro rata + bank holidays

Pump House Gallery is a public contemporary arts space with a national and increasingly international profile. It is distinguished by its unique four-storey Victorian building and idyllic location beside the lake in Battersea Park, London. We are looking for a marketing officer to cover a four month period, starting from beginning of September 2007 to end of December 2007 to manage all aspects of marketing and audience development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities include:
1. Responsible for the development of all aspects of marketing with the aim of increasing the audience base and public awareness of Pump House Gallery as a prime local, regional and national contemporary art gallery.
2. Responsible for the development of relevant publicity, securing free listings and positive press coverage wherever possible including art journals, local and national press, TV and internet.
3. Liaising with the Curator to develop a marketing plan and to co-ordinate and oversee exhibition advertising, press releases and other mail outs.
4. Overseeing targeted and prompt mailing of invitations and leaflets.
5. Liaises with the exhibition & education officer to marketing all education activities such as gallery talks and workshops.
6. Responsible for the development, maintenance and management of large Access and Outlook databases of the gallery’s growing contacts.
7. Overseeing the production of all printed materials.
8. Responsible for developing the gallery’s email marketing.
9. Manages the distribution of gallery publicity materials including programme leaflets and exhibition posters.
10. Maintain an up-to-date archive of exhibition publicity and images.
11. Liaise with the council’s Web Designer in regard to the development and maintenance of the gallery’s web pages and associated links.
12. Compile monthly and yearly spreadsheets in relations to accurate attendance records.
13. Implement a small-scale visitor survey.

Essential requirements
* Excellent knowledge of international contemporary visual art across all media and an understanding of artists working practices.
* Experience in working in an arts marketing environment.
* Proven track record in successfully marketing and securing press for exhibitions, projects and so forth.
* Impeccable writing skills with experience of writing press releases and marketing copy.
* Good knowledge of print production and processes.
* Excellent press contacts including art critics, art journals, national papers and magazines as well as sound knowledge of free listings.
* Highly organised and experience of implementing and using office and administrative systems.
* Excellent computer literacy skills specifically Microsoft Access and Outlook as well as knowledge of Photoshop.
* Sound knowledge of e-marketing and e-marketing packages such as Constant Contact.
* A lateral and creative thinker who can develop innovative and cost effective ways of marketing exhibitions, events and the gallery on minimal financial resources.

Desirable requirements
* A degree in Art History, Fine Art or equivalent.
