R/Evolutions: Mapping Culture, Community, and Change
http://www.arts.gla.ac.uk/revolutionsandruptures
Can revolution and evolution coexist? Revolution recalls radical change while evolution signifies gradual transformation. The potent political and scientific terms are so well-known that the mutual origins of these words are often forgotten. This conference seeks to address the common roots and fundamental disjunctions of revolution and evolution within the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Education through a new look at interdisciplinary methods. This graduate conference will explore the links between world-changing ideologies in the Arts and Humanities, aiming to generate new perspectives and create fresh communication between seemingly unrelated fields. Possible questions to consider include; What is the nature of cultural R/Evolution? Can art change the world? Can the Arts and Humanities produce radical new knowledge? How can the effects of material and ideological change be traced? How do traditional research fields or areas approach changes in research theory and methodology? Can interdisciplinary methods in research better record innovation and change? How do R/Evolutions impact society and those who write about it?
